Delhi Cab Driver’s Custody Extended in 11‑Year‑Old’s Rape‑Murder Case

A Delhi court has extended the police custody of Basu Kumar Singh, a 29‑year‑old cab driver, by two days as investigators map the routes he took before, during and after the abduction, rape and murder of an 11‑year‑old girl on 22 June. Singh allegedly picked up the child near Mahrauli, drove her to a remote spot near the Faridabad‑Gurugram border, assaulted and killed her, then returned to his rented room in Gurugram, changed clothes and resumed driving within hours.

Delhi police have also issued notices to three major app‑based cab service providers, demanding details of Singh’s association with them and whether proper background‑check procedures were followed. The driver has five criminal cases on record in Bihar, including two charges of attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed soon under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
