Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel ordered arrested by Calcutta High Court in rape case

The Calcutta High Court issued an order on July 19, 2026 directing police to arrest Delhi Capitals and Bengal wicket‑keeper‑batter Abishek Porel and to seize his electronic devices. The order relates to FIR No. 346/2026 lodged at Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district, West Bengal, accusing Porel of rape, criminal intimidation and cohabitation after promising marriage to a woman who later filed the complaint.

The court’s directive seeks to protect the complainant’s privacy and prevent the dissemination of any “obnoxious data.” Cricket journalist Subhayan Chakraborty noted that “The Calcutta High Court has directed police to urgently apprehend … and seize his electronic devices.” Porel has denied the allegations and indicated he may challenge the order in a higher court. The next hearing is scheduled for August 11, 2026, and the case could affect his IPL career.
