Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Vidya Vahini Yojana at the East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex, handing out more than 3,000 bicycles to Class 9 girls from government schools. The ceremony was attended by Delhi BJP State President and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Education Minister Ashish Sood and MLA Ravinder Negi.

The scheme is the first phase of a larger drive that aims to provide bicycles to roughly 1.40 lakh girl students in Delhi government schools within a month. Officials say the bicycles will ease travel to school, raise attendance, reduce drop‑out rates and boost confidence and safety for the girls. Earlier, on 26 July, the Delhi government also constituted the Delhi Commission for Women and the Delhi Minorities Commission as part of the broader welfare agenda.
