Delhi CJP protest video misrepresented; fact-check traces clip to Mexico
After Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on 25 July 2026, the Cockerroach Janata Party (CJP) staged a week‑long protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. A video showing people dancing and celebrating in a hotel was shared on social media, prompting senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani to question the party’s funding and leadership. BJP leader Amit Malviya also commented, noting the timing of the celebration seemed insensitive given the protest’s claim to fight for student justice.
A fact‑check investigation established that the same footage originates from celebrations in Mexico during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The clip was posted on Mexican social‑media accounts in late June and early July 2026 with hashtags such as #CDMX. It was mistakenly circulated as evidence of misconduct by CJP protesters in Delhi, despite having no connection to India.
The clarification separates the unrelated Mexican World Cup celebration from the Delhi protest, dispelling the claim that CJP members were partying in a hotel following the minister’s resignation.
