Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announces smart streetlight initiative for women's safety

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with female student representatives from various colleges to discuss women’s safety, campus security, and public transit. During the meeting at Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan, Gupta emphasized that the safety and dignity of women in Delhi is a top priority for the administration.

To address concerns regarding inadequate lighting near educational hubs, the Chief Minister announced the installation of approximately one lakh smart streetlights across the city. These lights will be connected to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and managed under an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) to ensure rapid repairs of any defunct units.

Additionally, Gupta directed the creation of a direct communication channel, including a dedicated WhatsApp group, to connect student representatives with administrative and police officials for time-bound grievance redressal. Students from institutions such as Lady Shri Ram, Gargi, and Daulat Ram colleges participated in the dialogue.
