Delhi Lakshmi Yojana launched by CM Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’ at Talkatora Stadium on Wednesday, August 26. The welfare scheme provides eligible women with monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500.

Under the program, beneficiaries can choose between two disbursement models: a default option where ₹1,500 is placed in a recurring or fixed deposit and ₹1,000 is provided via a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet, or a full savings model where the entire ₹2,500 is deposited into a savings account. The first installment for August is scheduled to be credited to verified accounts on September 1.

Registration for the scheme has seen significant engagement, with reports indicating between 9.13 lakh and 9.5 lakh registrations since its implementation began on August 1. During the launch event, the Chief Minister distributed official approval letters to approximately 2,500 to 4,000 women.

The initiative, a key election promise of the BJP government, has faced criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with officials claiming strict eligibility rules may exclude many women. Chief Minister Gupta defended the scheme, emphasizing its role in promoting financial independence and empowerment for women across the capital.
