Delhi court acquits man in fake currency case due to investigation lapses

A Delhi court has acquitted Deepak Mandal of charges involving the possession and circulation of fake Indian currency notes. The decision by Judge Amit Bansal of the Rouse Avenue Courts followed the identification of significant procedural lapses in the police investigation.

The court noted that seizure documents contained a First Information Report (FIR) number before the case had actually been registered. This discrepancy led the judge to conclude that the veracity of the prosecution's version was in doubt, suggesting the FIR number may have been inserted after the fact or that the recovery was recorded prematurely.

Additionally, the court found that police failed to seize the bags allegedly used to transport the counterfeit currency, despite the prosecution claiming those bags were the source of the recovery.
