Delhi court denies bail to former DGHS officials in Rs 700-crore graft case
A Delhi court has rejected bail applications for former Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Vatsala Aggarwal and Dr. Vinod Kumar Ranga in connection with an alleged Rs 700-crore corruption case. The case involves the procurement of medical goods at inflated prices.
Special Judge (ACB) Vidya Prakash of the Rouse Avenue Court dismissed the pleas, noting that the gravity of the offences and the need for an unhindered investigation required their continued custody. The court expressed concerns that the accused might influence the ongoing probe. While the defense argued that bail should be granted because a chargesheet had been filed, the judge observed that the filing of a chargesheet does not automatically entitle an individual to bail.
Further investigation is currently underway regarding other entities, firms, and individuals, including Rajiv Kumar, also known as Rajiv Rangeela. The court noted that a supplementary chargesheet is still required as authorities continue to examine financial trails, documentary evidence, and electronic records.
