Supreme Court revokes Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail, she surrenders in Meghalaya murder case

The Supreme Court of India on July 23 cancelled the bail previously granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, and ordered her to surrender within three weeks.

Sonam surrendered before a trial court in Shillong on July 28‑29 and was placed in judicial custody. The court observed that the trial is at a crucial stage and said she could seek fresh bail if the proceedings are not concluded within six months.

The case concerns the 2025 killing of her husband, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Police allege Sonam conspired with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and hired contract killers for financial gain. The victim’s family, including brother Vipin Raghuvanshi, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and expressed hope for swift justice.
