Delhi court orders FIR against journalist Karishma Aziz

A Delhi court has directed the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi to register a First Information Report (FIR) against journalist Karishma Aziz. The order follows a complaint alleging that Aziz posted derogatory content on the social media platform X targeting Hindu religious figures, historical personalities, and India.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Gupta of the Patiala House District Court ruled that the material presented disclosed the commission of cognizable offences that require investigation. The court noted that it was not expressing an opinion on the merits of the allegations at this stage but required a compliance report within one week.

The complaint, filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva, alleges that Aziz’s posts and videos insulted Hindu beliefs, distorted history, and promoted communal disharmony and anti-India sentiment. Specific allegations include mocking the physical disability of a Hindu saint, making remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and posting content that allegedly denigrated Hindu warriors and icons.
