Delhi court orders inquiry into police delay in MCOCA case
A Special Court at the Rouse Avenue complex in Delhi has reprimanded the Delhi Police for failing to arrest two individuals accused under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for six years. The court described the police's approach as a ‘mockery’ and an ‘absolutely perfunctory and mere eyewash’ report.
The accused, Mukesh (alias Punit) and Pardeep (alias Guri), remained at large despite the invocation of the stringent MCOCA, allowing them to allegedly commit further heinous crimes, including murder, robbery, and kidnapping, between 2020 and 2026. The court noted that Mukesh was involved in approximately 20 FIRs, including multiple murders and attempts to murder, during the period he evaded arrest.
Special Judge Gaurav Rao has ordered a detailed inquiry by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, into the conduct of the erring officials and investigating officers. The court directed that a report be submitted and requested the Joint Commissioner of Police to be present at the next hearing to ensure the investigation is concluded without further delay.
