Delhi Court permits online testimony from US and UK tech officials

A Delhi Court has granted permission for the online deposition of nodal officers from major technology companies in connection with the Shraddha Walkar murder case. The ruling aims to expedite the trial of Aaftab Amin Poonawala, which is nearing its conclusion.

Additional Sessions Judge Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi ruled that securing the physical attendance of the witnesses from abroad would cause “undue delay and exorbitant expense.” The court directed that the order be shared with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs for compliance.

The witnesses scheduled to testify via online deposition include Adrian Silvera of WhatsApp LLC and Meta Platforms, Inc. in the USA; Shelby Smith of Google LLC in the USA; Arti Sheth of Google (Gmail) in the USA; and Luke Mitsi of Bumble Group in the United Kingdom.
