Delhi court sentences five for attacking police during 2020 riots

Delhi's Karkardooma Court has sentenced five individuals to prison terms of up to two years for attacking and obstructing police officers during the 2020 North East Delhi riots. The convicts—identified as Arif, Mohd. Khalid, Abdul Sattar, Tanvir Ali, and Hunain—were found to be members of an unlawful assembly that targeted police personnel attempting to suppress violence in the Bhajanpura area.

Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh noted that the assault on state machinery involved in maintaining law and order was an aggravating circumstance. The sentences include varying terms of imprisonment and fines for offenses including rioting, obstructing public servants, and assaulting police officers during riot suppression.
