Delhi Development Authority overhauls security at Aastha Kunj park
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has implemented a series of security enhancements at Aastha Kunj park in Kalkaji following the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in September. The incident, involving men posing as police personnel, exposed significant vulnerabilities including broken boundary walls, unmanned gates, and inadequate lighting.
To address these gaps, the DDA has installed 105 additional lights, bringing the total functional lights to 445, and is planning high-mast lighting in specific locations. The authority also installed four functional CCTV cameras and repaired damaged sections of the perimeter wall. All 29 gates have been made lockable.
For active monitoring, the DDA has deployed security guards and two siren-equipped motorcycles for night patrolling. Site in-charges and supervisors are conducting surprise night inspections. Due to the park's location within the Morphological Ridge, officials noted that additional illumination in densely vegetated areas will be planned carefully to avoid disturbing local flora and fauna.
