Delhi DRISHTI project approved to fast-track property rights
The Indian government has approved the Rs 65-crore DRISHTI project (Delhi Revenue and Imaging Survey, Spatial Technology Initiative) to accelerate the granting of property rights to residents in Delhi’s unauthorised colonies under the PM-UDAY scheme.
The initiative will utilize GIS-based mapping and geospatial technology to conduct property surveys and documentation. This approach aims to make the process more transparent, organized, and time-bound. To support the rollout, PM-UDAY Cells will be established in all 13 districts of Delhi, alongside a dedicated unit at the headquarters.
Funding for the project is split between the central and state governments. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will provide Rs 52 crore (80%) through the Urban Development Fund, while the Delhi Government’s Revenue Department will contribute the remaining Rs 13 crore (20%). The central grant may be released in a single installment if procurement is conducted via the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the scheme is designed to provide legal security and ownership rights to hundreds of thousands of families living in notified unauthorised colonies. The implementation involves the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Revenue Department, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
