Delhi Makes Pink Saheli Smart Card Mandatory for Women's Free Bus Travel

Starting 1 August, the Delhi government will require women to use the Pink Saheli smart card to travel for free on DTC and cluster buses. The paper pink tickets that have been issued since the scheme began will be cancelled after 31 July.

The Pink Saheli card is built on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) platform and will later be usable on the metro, in malls and for other digital payments. Residents who are women, as well as transgender citizens of Delhi, can apply. Full KYC cards function like debit cards, while a zero‑KYC version is also available.

Applications are accepted at around 50 designated centers, including district magistrate offices, sub‑district magistrate offices and selected DTC depots. Officials say the shift to a digital system will improve transparency, reduce counterfeit tickets and create an electronic record of each journey.
