Delhi Youth Swept Away in Sarita Vihar Drain Amid Heavy Rain

An 18‑year‑old man identified as Ankit was swept away on the night of 7 August 2026 by a strong current in an overflowing drain at Priyanka Camp in Aali Village, under the jurisdiction of Delhi’s Sarita Vihar police station. He was returning home from his workplace in Noida when he slipped on water‑logged road and was carried away by the flood‑ridden drain.

A PCR call received by Sarita Vihar police was assigned to Sub‑Inspector Roshan Lal, who, together with a beat team, reached the site with assistance from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) East Rescue Team and the Delhi Fire Service. Despite extensive night‑time and next‑day search efforts, including local volunteers, the youth remains missing. Rescue operations have been hampered by continued heavy rainfall, darkness, strong currents and debris in the drain.

Authorities continue to search the drain and surrounding areas, while the incident highlights the broader water‑logging problems affecting Delhi‑NCR during the ongoing monsoon spell.
