Delhi food safety concerns raised following undercover investigation
An undercover investigation into various restaurants, roadside eateries, and online food delivery outlets in Delhi has raised significant concerns regarding hygiene and food safety standards. The probe examined kitchen cleanliness, food storage methods, employee medical checks, and pest control measures.
Recorded footage revealed several violations, including food and utensils being stored directly on floors, employees preparing meals while sitting on the ground, and damp walls with debris falling from ceilings. In some instances, staff members were observed working without headcovers. Additionally, cleaning activities in open drains were recorded in close proximity to food preparation areas, posing risks of dust and contamination.
While the investigation noted that visible lack of cleanliness does not definitively prove food contamination without laboratory testing, the findings question the effectiveness of current hygiene monitoring and the licensing process for food establishments in the city.
