Delhi expands electric bus fleet with 200 new vehicles

The Delhi government has expanded its public transport fleet by introducing 200 new zero-emission electric buses. This addition brings the total Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet to approximately 6,800 vehicles, including 4,938 electric and 1,750 CNG buses.

As part of the initiative, 56 dedicated women-only electric bus services are being launched. This includes 30 ‘Ladies Special’ trips across 15 high-demand routes and 26 ‘University Ladies Special’ trips across 13 routes to improve connectivity for female students and commuters. These buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons linked to the Delhi Police ‘112’ emergency system, and real-time tracking. To ensure safety, female staff and Home Guards will be deployed on these services.

The expansion also includes the launch of an inter-state electric bus service connecting Delhi to Karnal, Haryana, providing 10 daily trips across a 133-kilometer corridor. Additionally, a high-capacity public EV charging station has been established at the DTC Rajghat Depot-1 to support the growing electric vehicle network.
