Delhi raises Kanwar camp aid to ₹15 lakh as Yatra preparations ramp up
The Delhi government announced a major increase in financial assistance for Kanwar pilgrim camps ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra. Large camps (over 20,000 sq ft, operating 6‑12 days) will receive ₹15 lakh, up from ₹11 lakh, while camps of the same size operating 3‑5 days will get ₹9 lakh, up from ₹6 lakh. Grants for smaller camps have also been lifted across all size categories. Free electricity of up to 1,200 units per camp will continue, with power supplied by BSES and TPDDL. Payments will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer in two installments released by district magistrates.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the measures aim to make the Yatra safer, more organised and convenient for the millions of Shiva devotees expected to travel across northern India. Delhi Police has deployed additional personnel, Quick Response Teams, PCR vans and fire‑station alerts, and implemented extensive traffic‑management plans, including road diversions and bans on heavy vehicles on key routes. Coordination meetings with neighbouring‑state police have been held, and cyber‑commandos will monitor social‑media content, removing AI‑generated misinformation within three hours. The number of Kanwar camps in Delhi has risen from 170 in 2024 to 308 in 2025.
