Delhi Government Proposes Rs 13 Lakh Health Cover for Disabled Children

The Delhi government is preparing a health‑insurance scheme that would offer coverage of up to Rs 13 lakh per child for a range of disabilities. The proposal, currently under review by several administrative bodies, is slated for discussion in the cabinet led by Chief Minister Delhi. It is designed to offset high costs of surgeries, hospital treatment, medical procedures and essential assistive equipment for children with developmental, physical or chronic conditions.

The scheme would be linked to empanelled hospitals and rehabilitation centres to ensure direct access to specialised care. It complements existing Delhi welfare measures for persons with disabilities, such as monthly financial assistance, transport concessions and free bus travel for the visually impaired. The plan targets a broad list of disabilities, including blindness, deafness, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disability and others, aiming to relieve economically weaker families from the financial burden of long‑term care.
