Delhi government targets 600 km of road repairs by December

The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has resumed road repair operations with a target to complete 600 kilometres of roadwork by December. The projects had previously faced delays due to rising bitumen prices and supply shortages caused by conflict in West Asia.

Work has restarted following the approval of cost escalation proposals by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for projects spanning from April to November. To ensure durability, a team from Netaji Subhas University of Technology will conduct third-party quality audits. Additionally, contractors will be responsible for maintaining the repaired roads for a five-year period.

Construction is being prioritized before winter, as temperatures dropping below 15 degrees Celsius make bitumen laying difficult. The government is also avoiding work during the monsoon season to ensure project efficiency.
