Delhi heatwave spikes to 44°C as meteorological department issues red and orange alerts

The agency has issued red and orange alerts for thunderstorms, with winds expected at 60‑70 km/h and isolated light rain – 1.3 mm in Palam, 0.6 mm in Iainagar, and light drizzle on Lodhi Road.

Minimum temperatures were recorded slightly above normal, with Safdarjung reporting 28.2 °C. The Central Pollution Control Board logged an air‑quality index of 135, classifying the day's air as “moderate.” Forecasts call for scattered clouds, occasional showers, and continued heat through the weekend, with night‑time lows potentially staying near 30‑32 °C.
