Delhi High Court orders expedited opening of RML Hospital Super Speciality Block

The Delhi High Court has ordered authorities to accelerate efforts to make the Super Speciality Block at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital operational. The directive, issued by a Division Bench including Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, follows a petition by the civil rights group Social Jurist.

Key requirements include the recruitment of personnel for 217 newly created posts and the finalization of tender documents for outsourcing manpower. While the hospital originally proposed 2,054 regular posts, the Ministry of Finance has currently approved 217.

Regarding infrastructure, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) must address construction and fire safety. The court noted that CPWD expects to complete work on lift shafts and lobbies within six months but directed the agency to attempt to reduce this timeline. Additionally, the court emphasized that fire tower access and ramps must remain unobstructed to ensure emergency safety.
