Delhi High Court orders fast decision on SFI Instagram appeal

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre’s Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) to expeditiously decide an appeal filed by the Students' Federation of India (SFI) regarding the permanent disabling of its official Instagram account, @SfiDelhi.

The SFI challenged the action, alleging that Instagram disabled the account on July 5, citing potential associations with other accounts that violated “Community Standards on Account Integrity.” The SFI argued that the platform failed to disclose the specific identity of the associated account, the nature of the violation, or the material used to justify the decision.

The petition claimed the disabling deprived the organization of an established digital platform used to communicate student-centric campaigns and engage with the public. Justice Amit Mahajan disposed of the petition after counsel for the GAC assured the court that the appellate authority would be advised to resolve the appeal promptly.
