Delhi High Court petition seeks improved connectivity in courtrooms

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking mandatory directions to ensure uninterrupted mobile network and Wi-Fi connectivity within courtrooms and court complexes across Delhi.

A division bench, including Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, heard the plea presented by advocate Shannu Baghel. The court has requested that the High Court be impleaded as a necessary party to the petition, with an amended memo of parties to be filed within one week. The matter is scheduled for further hearing next Wednesday.

The petition argues that reliable internet access is now an essential component of judicial infrastructure due to the increasing use of e-filing, digital case records, video conferencing, and hybrid hearings. The plea highlights that poor connectivity can disrupt the administration of justice by preventing lawyers from accessing online documents, joining virtual hearings, or communicating with clients and family members during proceedings.
