Delhi High Court petition seeks stay on film ‘Suryaa’ release

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking pre-release scrutiny and an interim stay on the theatrical release of the film ‘SURYAA – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’, currently scheduled for November 20.

The petition was filed by Dr Nachiketa Bhatia of the All India Doctors Legal Cell and Dr Dhruv Chauhan of the IMA Junior Doctors Network. The petitioners allege that the film’s teaser and trailer present a generalized portrayal of corruption within the medical profession and depict violence against healthcare workers as heroic or justified.

Specific objections include dialogues regarding patients being charged high fees for excessive testing and claims that doctors write commissions on prescriptions rather than medical orders. The petitioners also expressed concern over promotional taglines such as ‘Inspired by unbelievable true events’, arguing they may falsely lend factual authenticity to the film’s depiction of the healthcare system. The Union of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Board of Film Certification, and producer MM Moviez are named as respondents.
