Delhi High Court seeks police response on Tahir Hussain murder appeal
The Delhi High Court has requested a response from the police regarding an appeal filed by former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain. Hussain is challenging his conviction and life sentence for the murder of Ankit Sharma, an Intelligence Bureau staffer, during the February 2020 riots.
Justice Prathiba M Singh and Vikas Mahajan admitted the appeal, scheduling a hearing for December 2. The court also ordered jail authorities to provide the convict's nominal roll and requested trial court records. The bench noted that all connected appeals arising from the same judgment will be heard together to save judicial time.
According to prosecution records, Sharma went missing in February 2020, and his body was later recovered from a nala with 51 injuries. A trial court previously sentenced Hussain and four co-convicts to life imprisonment. Hussain has contended that the investigation was tainted and aimed at implicating him to satisfy public anger.
