Delhi High Court summons Mahua Moitra and Subhash Chandra Garg in defamation suit
The Delhi High Court has issued summons to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and former Union Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg in a civil defamation suit filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.
During the hearing, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed strong disapproval of the language used against Dubey, describing it as “intemperate and absolutely derogatory.” In response to the court's objections, Moitra’s counsel agreed to remove a post on X (formerly Twitter) in which she referred to Dubey as a “fake degree” person.
Additionally, Garg’s counsel stated they would request the podcaster hosting a recent interview to block or mute segments where Garg referred to Dubey as a “blackmailer.” The lawsuit, filed by Dubey, seeks a permanent injunction against further aspersions, an apology, and damages amounting to Rs 2 crore. The court noted that both the plaintiff and the former finance secretary are individuals of repute and will further consider the written replies of the respective parties as the proceedings progress.
