Delhi Lakshmi Yojana launches portal, offers ₹2,500 monthly to eligible women
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the online portal for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on 1 August. The scheme provides a monthly cash assistance of ₹2,500 to women aged 21‑60 who have been Delhi residents for at least ten years and whose family income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh per year. Only one senior woman per family is eligible, and families with more than three children, a four‑wheel vehicle, high electricity consumption, GST payments, or government employment are excluded.
The first instalment is scheduled for Raksha Bandhan, with the amount split into ₹1,500 deposited as a recurring fixed deposit and ₹1,000 transferred to a digital wallet that cannot be used for alcohol, tobacco or gambling. The Delhi government has earmarked ₹5,100 crore to cover roughly 1.7 million beneficiaries. Later reports note that applicants must also obtain a recommendation letter from a local MLA or MP, a condition that critics say will limit the scheme’s reach.
The portal (dly.delhi.gov.in) is now open for online registration, and the government says the cash aid aims to strengthen women’s financial independence and self‑esteem.
