Delhi Lakshmi Yojana approved to give women ₹2,500 monthly
The Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, approved the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, a welfare scheme that will provide eligible women in the capital with a direct cash transfer of ₹2,500 each month. An online application portal will launch on 1 August 2026, and the first installment is slated for Raksha Bandhan on 28 August 2026 after applications are verified.
Eligibility is limited to women aged 21‑60 who have been permanent Delhi residents for at least ten years, whose family’s annual income does not exceed roughly ₹2.5 lakh, and who have no criminal record in the family. Only one woman per household can receive the benefit, with the eldest eligible woman chosen when multiple candidates exist. Applicants receiving other government pensions or regular financial assistance are excluded, as are families owning a four‑wheeler.
The scheme, originally introduced as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, was renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana and is presented as a fulfillment of a key election promise by the BJP‑led administration. It aims to support household expenses, medical needs, and daughters’ education, thereby strengthening women’s economic independence in Delhi.
