Delhi LG emphasizes interconnected development priorities
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu stated that the capital’s development priorities—including urban infrastructure, public transport, healthcare, education, water management, energy, and digital governance—are interconnected and cannot be planned or delivered in isolation.
Speaking at a capacity-building programme at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Dwarka, Sandhu noted that while public-private partnerships (PPPs) are vital for the “Viksit Delhi” 2047 vision, they are not a universal solution. He emphasized that the decision to use a PPP model must be based on the nature of the service, public authority capacity, private participation potential, risk distribution, and expected citizen outcomes.
Sandhu urged government officials to evaluate projects across their entire lifecycle, focusing on public outcomes rather than just departmental responsibilities. He warned that projects might be technically feasible but financially unsustainable, or may attract investment while failing to provide affordable services if maintenance and operational designs are inadequate.
