Delhi LG orders enhanced security and safety audits for public spaces
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed government agencies and the Delhi Police to implement enhanced safety measures to improve the security of women across the national capital. During a high-level review meeting with senior officials, Sandhu emphasized the need for visible patrolling, safer public spaces, and stronger community engagement.
Following these directives, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has intensified security at its parks. The agency is conducting safety and security audits, with 300 parks already inspected. These audits evaluate guard deployment, CCTV coverage, lighting, access control, and the condition of fencing and boundary walls. To improve safety, the DDA is increasing night-shift guards, deploying bike patrols, and addressing dark spots through additional lighting and vegetation pruning.
Law enforcement officials, including Deputy Commissioners of Police, have been instructed to engage directly with students, school authorities, Resident Welfare Associations, and market traders' associations to address safety concerns promptly. The Lieutenant Governor warned that any dereliction of duty by officials regarding these measures would result in disciplinary action.
