Delhi logs 137 clean‑air days as anti‑pollution drive boosts air quality

Delhi government reported 137 clean‑air days up to 4 August, surpassing 130 in the same period last year and 110 in 2016. The Air Quality Index stayed within the satisfactory range (51‑100) for five consecutive days, with an overall AQI of 64 and the Vivek Vihar hotspot at 43.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the improvement results from sustained planning, scientific interventions and strict enforcement, including dust‑suppression measures, biomining of legacy waste and targeted management of pollution hotspots. In the past 24 hours, 2,243 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste were lifted and scientifically disposed of, and 11,797 traffic‑related violation tickets were issued.

These gains occur alongside broader environmental actions in the capital: the National Green Tribunal has expanded a uranium‑contamination case in groundwater, the Delhi LG approved land for India’s first e‑waste eco‑park, a rain‑water harvesting programme is being rolled out in schools, and a campaign to plant 70 lakh trees and revive the Delhi Ridge has been launched.
