Delhi MCD House erupts in chaos during pollution debate

A session of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House descended into chaos during a debate intended to address the city's pollution crisis. Councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress engaged in heated verbal exchanges, leading to physical disruptions including the throwing of files and water, and the breaking of microphones.

The confrontation was triggered by disputes over the allocation of development funds. While Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced an immediate release of Rs 25 lakh—with a total of Rs 2 crore planned for the current financial year—AAP councillors demanded an immediate increase of the initial amount to Rs 1 crore.

The situation escalated to the point where marshals had to intervene and escort Mayor Wahi to safety as councillors approached the mayor’s chair. The proceedings were briefly suspended following the uproar.
