Delhi Metro ramps up security checks ahead of Independence Day

From 9 August through 16 August 2026, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will intensify passenger screening at all Delhi‑NCR metro stations in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations on 15 August. The advisory calls for multi‑layered frisking, baggage scanners and metal detectors at busy interchanges such as Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat and others. Additional CISF and Delhi Police personnel will patrol platforms and train interiors, and parking at station premises will be closed from the morning of 14 August until 2 p.m. on 15 August.

Commuters are urged to allow an extra 15‑20 minutes for travel, as the stricter checks are expected to create long queues, especially during peak hours. Passengers are asked to cooperate with security staff and avoid carrying prohibited items such as sharp objects or flammable materials.
