Delhi Metro closes 11 stations due to planned protests
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suspended entry and exit services at 11 metro stations in New Delhi due to planned protests. The closures are a security measure following announcements of demonstrations at Jantar Mantar regarding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
The affected stations include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Sewa Teerth, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, and New Delhi station. These locations are situated in high-traffic areas within the New Delhi and Central Delhi districts.
While entry and exit are prohibited, DMRC confirmed that interchange facilities will remain operational at four major stations: Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi, and Central Secretariat. Passengers can switch between lines at these points but cannot enter or exit the stations. In response to the protests, Delhi Police have implemented Section 163 of the BNSS in the New Delhi district to maintain law and order.
