Delhi Metro outperforms Hong Kong, Paris, and New York in punctuality
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has outperformed several established global transit systems, including the Hong Kong Metro, Paris Metro, and New York Subway, in terms of punctuality and reliability. In international benchmarking conducted by the 'Community of Metros'—a group of 45 major metro systems—Delhi Metro has consistently ranked among the top five globally based on a two-minute delay metric.
DMRC maintains rigorous operational standards, classifying any arrival more than 59 seconds past the scheduled time as a delay. Despite expanding its network and fleet over 23 years of operation, the system has maintained a punctuality rate of 99.95% as of 2026. Additionally, the network has achieved a 'Mean Distance Between Failures' (MDBF) of 2.72 million car-kilometers.
The network also includes India's largest driverless metro system, with approximately 29% of operations running under Unattended Train Operation (UTO). Line 7, spanning 71.55 kilometers with 45 stations, stands as one of the world's longest driverless and circular metro lines.
