Delhi-NCR air pollution: CAQM revises GRAP schedule

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has approved revisions to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. According to Dr. SD Atri, a technical member of the CAQM, the updated schedule moves several provisions to Stage 1 of the plan because they are applicable year-round.

One major change involves inter-city buses. Previously categorized under Stage 2, regulations regarding these vehicles have been moved to Stage 1. This includes the existing restriction that only CNG, BS-6 diesel, and electric buses are permitted to operate in Delhi, while buses with lower emission standards are prohibited.

A second significant change concerns diesel generator (DG) sets. Approximately 76 directives related to DG sets—including rules on capacity, dual-fuel kits, and air pollution control equipment for sets exceeding 800 kW—will now be implemented starting from Stage 1, as these regulations are maintained throughout the year.
