India weather alert: Heavy rain and storms forecast for multiple states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread weather alerts across India, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in approximately 14 to 22 states. Key regions under alert include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and several northeastern states.

In several areas, wind speeds are expected to reach between 80 and 90 kilometers per hour. Hilly regions face significant risks of landslides, while plains may experience waterlogging and flooding. Specific warnings have been issued for Odisha, where heavy rainfall is anticipated through August 31, and for Bihar, where an orange alert covers multiple districts including Patna and Gaya.

In Delhi-NCR, recent heavy downpours have already caused waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The region has recorded a seasonal rainfall surplus of 35 percent. While some areas expect light showers and cloudy skies, the broader monsoon activity remains intense across northern and eastern India.
