India: Monsoon rains impact regions as Delhi prepares for BRICS Summit

Heavy monsoon rains have impacted several regions in India, including the Chambal area and Delhi-NCR. In the Chambal region, rainfall caused flooding on roads and led to a fatal incident in Dabra where a dilapidated house collapsed, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her young son.

In Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms through early September. The rain has provided relief from high humidity and heat, causing temperatures to drop by several degrees in various parts of the capital.

In preparation for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place from September 11 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Government of India has announced that Central Government offices in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026. This decision, issued by the Department of Personnel & Training, aims to manage the significant logistical, security, and traffic requirements of the summit, which is expected to host leaders from approximately 30 BRICS member and partner nations.
