Delhi records best October 24 air quality in a decade

Delhi recorded a moderate Air Quality Index (AQI) of 175 to 191 on October 24, marking its best air quality for that specific date in a decade, excluding the COVID-19 period. The Delhi government attributed this improvement to aggressive anti-pollution measures, including mechanical road sweeping, water sprinkling, and the removal of significant quantities of waste.

In contrast, Mumbai experienced a sharp decline in air quality, with its AQI reaching 322, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. Factors contributing to Mumbai's pollution spike included construction dust, garbage burning, crop fire emissions, and sluggish wind speeds. The Bombay High Court has taken note of the worsening conditions in Mumbai, directing officials to intensify enforcement against polluting activities.

While Delhi's air quality remained moderate following overnight rains, forecasts suggest it could potentially rise to 317, which would shift the city back into the ‘very poor’ category.
