Delhi Police arrest murder suspect after 26 years on the run
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 62-year-old man for the 1998 murder of his 24-year-old neighbor, Jayprakash. The suspect, identified as Vishwanath Singh, allegedly killed the victim by striking him in the head with a hammer due to suspicions regarding an alleged affair between the victim and Singh's wife.
Following the attack, the suspect reportedly attempted to stage the crime as a road accident. While police initially registered the case as a death due to negligence, subsequent investigations led to murder charges being filed in 2000. The court declared Singh a proclaimed offender on December 5, 2001.
After evading authorities for over two decades, Singh was apprehended in the Shiv Vihar area of Seelampur by a team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande. The arrest follows months of surveillance and intelligence gathering from the suspect's ancestral village in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh.
