Pitampura fake call center busted in 100 crore cyber fraud case
The Delhi Police IFSO team has dismantled an international cyber fraud network operating out of a fake call center in Pitampura. Eleven individuals, including two women, were arrested during a raid on a residence in Shivaji Market.
Investigators estimate the network defrauded victims of approximately 100 crore rupees. The suspects targeted individuals in the United States and other countries by posing as technical support employees. They used remote access software to gain control of victims' computers, often using fear tactics regarding viruses or malware to manipulate them into purchasing gift cards or transferring cryptocurrency.
During the operation, police seized 41 lakh rupees in cash, 29 laptops, 25 mobile phones, 8 routers, and a KIA vehicle. The group reportedly used fake identities, such as Williams, Rayan, and Alex, and sent fraudulent documents from agencies like the FBI to exert pressure on victims.
