India police address ATM thefts, impersonation fraud and social media misinformation
Authorities in India are addressing several criminal incidents and addressing misinformation. In Gujarat, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch arrested a man from Punjab for allegedly posing as a CISF Deputy Superintendent of Police. The suspect reportedly used a forged identity card to defraud individuals by promising airport jobs and discounted goods, including iPhones.
In Rajkot, the City Crime Branch apprehended three men from Uttar Pradesh for an ATM theft scheme. The suspects allegedly used aluminium strips to trap cash inside dispenser boxes during withdrawals, allowing them to collect the money after customers left. In Telangana, thieves reportedly used an ambulance and wore nighties to disguise themselves while robbing an SBI ATM in the Kamareddy district.
In Delhi, police have issued multiple clarifications regarding viral social media videos. They debunked a claim that a Sub-Inspector had resigned to join protests and refuted rumors of a clash between police and protesters at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. The gurdwara's manager confirmed that no such clash occurred and that devotees were attending services as usual.
