Azamgarh: Man kills wife, two priests, and son before police encounter
In Shambhupur village, Azamgarh, a violent standoff concluded after approximately eight hours, resulting in the deaths of Arvind Singh and his son. The incident began on Tuesday evening when Singh allegedly shot and killed his wife, Babita Singh, and two priests, Mahendra Pathak and Akhilesh Mishra, during a religious ritual. The dispute reportedly arose when Singh objected to the ceremony and demanded the priests' identification.
Following the initial murders, Singh barricaded himself inside his residence with his three children. During the prolonged standoff, Singh allegedly shot his young son, Shaurya. Police, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) and ATS, surrounded the house and attempted to negotiate a surrender for several hours.
When the situation escalated and gunfire was heard from within, police used stun grenades and tear gas to force entry. A shootout ensued between the police and Singh, who opened fire on the officers. Singh was shot and later died during medical treatment. His son also succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Two of Singh's daughters were rescued unharmed, though they were found in states of trauma and dehydration.
