Delhi police families demand justice after Jantar Mantar protest injuries
On July 20 2026 the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) organised a march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament that turned violent. More than 250 Delhi police personnel were injured, with some officers dragged by the crowd, beaten with stones, flower‑pots, slippers and shoes, and left unconscious for around four hours at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. One Sub‑Inspector’s uniform was returned home “soaked in blood”.
On July 31 the families of the injured officers held a press conference in New Delhi, presenting photographs of the wounded, describing the trauma of seeing their relatives’ blood‑stained uniforms, and accusing “anti‑social elements” of infiltrating the protest. They called for a discussion in Parliament and for justice for the police and their families. During the event, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was asked about the families’ grievances and replied, “Are you from the BJP?”, sparking further political controversy. The families also criticised the one‑sided narrative on social media that portrayed the police as aggressors while overlooking the injuries they sustained.
