Delhi Police find no offence in CM Rekha Gupta's remarks

Delhi Police has informed a court that no cognizable offence was committed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding remarks allegedly made about Lord Hanuman. The police submitted a status report to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at the Rouse Avenue Courts, stating that the speech, when viewed in its entirety, was intended to appreciate government employees rather than outrage religious feelings.

The complaint, filed by Ram Niwas Sharma, alleged that during a September 23, 2025, event at ISBT Kashmere Gate, Gupta remarked that officials remember their temporary powers only when their “tail catches fire,” a comparison the complainant claimed insulted the deity.

Upon reviewing the official video recording and a transcript, police concluded that the remarks did not indicate an intent to ridicule or insult the deity. The court has granted the complainant time to file an objection to the police report, with further proceedings scheduled for October 29.
