Delhi Premier League faces rule review amid player controversy

The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 has faced scrutiny following a controversy involving batter Dev Chaudhary. Chaudhary, playing for the New Delhi Tigers, drew criticism after viral videos showcased unconventional batting and fielding techniques. His performance, which included a duck and a low score of 16 runs, led to questions regarding his selection and lack of documented senior-level cricket records.

The controversy has prompted the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) to review tournament rules. Specifically, officials are examining a provision that allowed franchises to select three players outside of the official auction based on minimal criteria. Members of the DDCA Apex Council had previously expressed concerns that this loophole could lead to the selection of undeserving players through recommendations.
