Delhi prepares for Chhath Puja with over 1,400 ghats
Delhi is preparing for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival, which will be observed from November 13 to 16. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to complete major preparations at least two days before the festival begins, with basic arrangements at ghats expected to be finalized by November 6.
This year, more than 1,400 ghats are expected to be set up across the city, an increase from the 1,326 ghats utilized in 2025. To accommodate devotees, the government plans to provide covered tents at large and medium-sized ghats to protect against potential cold weather.
Key logistical directives include the installation of adequate toilets and changing rooms for women, proper lighting, drinking water, and continuous sanitation services. Cleaning teams will be active during the evening and morning rituals to ensure prompt waste removal. For safety and crowd management, officials will implement CCTV surveillance at major locations, station fire tenders near heavily attended areas, and coordinate with traffic police regarding parking and road closures.
